Question 1

What is life drain as a superpower?

Accepted Answer

Life drain is the power to steal life force from other living beings: drain their vitality, feed on it, and renew the body with the stolen life. Fan catalogs file it as Life-Force Absorption, also called Life-Force Draining or Vampiric Draining.

Question 2

How is life drain different from vampirism?

Accepted Answer

Vampirism is one delivery method for life drain: drinking blood. Full life drain is the wider power and works through touch, bite, kiss, claws, weapons, spells, or area fields. A vampire is a life drainer with a favorite utensil.

Question 3

How is life drain different from energy absorption?

Accepted Answer

Energy absorption takes any energy, including attacks and electricity, and often lets the user manipulate it in intricate ways. Life drain specifically takes living vitality from a host, and the Energy Drain filing notes that drained energy does not grant intricate control.

Question 4

Can a life drainer heal with the stolen life?

Accepted Answer

Mostly repair, not creation. Stolen life heals wounds, regenerates tissue, and restores youth or stamina, as Talion, Imhotep, and Javna show. It revives only at the high end, like Yhwach's Sternritter elites, and it cannot replace what the drainer never had.

Question 5

What can stop a life drainer?

Accepted Answer

Users of Energy Independence are immune, Absorption Immunity and Absolute Life-Force block the siphon, and Absorption Negation ends the tap. Drain usually needs touch or proximity, so breaking contact breaks it. Involuntary drain poisons the drainer's own allies, and the tool can turn on its master.

Question 6

Who are famous life drainers in fiction?

Accepted Answer

Yhwach (Bleach), Cell (Dragon Ball Z), Kisame (Naruto), Big Mom (One Piece), Rogue (Marvel), Selene (Marvel), Imhotep (The Mummy), Javna (Charmed), Moira (Overwatch), Yveltal (Pokémon), Cole MacGrath (inFAMOUS), and Fūka (Naruto Shippuden), each as depicted in their own universe.
