Question 1

What is a static cling as a superpower?

Accepted Answer

A static cling is the power to scale walls using electricity and make things stick with static: the fan catalogs file it as Electrical Wall Crawling, a Technique of Electricity Manipulation and a Variation of Wall Crawling, also called simply Static Cling. Users charge a surface or a body, alter electromagnetic attraction so things cling to surfaces, and release the grip on command. It is electricity that holds instead of hurls.

Question 2

How is it different from static charge?

Accepted Answer

Static charge is the buildup; static cling is the grip. Our static charge guide covers accumulating charge through friction and releasing it as shocks. A static cling user spends that charge on attraction instead: sticking villains to walls, scaling buildings, holding objects in place. Every cling is a static charge spent on sticking, but not every static charge ends in a grip.

Question 3

Can a static cling user unstick things?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and the reverse is half the power. Static Shock can reverse the effects of Static Cling, leaving targets unable to stick onto surfaces, as depicted in the comics. The catalog's neighbor power states the general rule: users can make adhesive objects not so adhesive. Real electroadhesion works the same way, with modulated adhesion that can be turned off for mobility or cleaning. Stick it, unstick it: the user decides which.

Question 4

Can real electricity stick things to walls?

Accepted Answer

In principle, yes, at smaller scale. Electroadhesion really does climb walls: SRI International demonstrated clamping forces of 0.2 to 1.4 Newton per square centimeter on concrete, wood, steel, glass, drywall, and brick, and Harvard's HAMR-E micro-robot climbs vertical and upside-down jet engine walls on electroadhesive feet. The honest limit: real static cling vinyl only sticks to glossy, smooth surfaces such as glass and metal, and will not stick to paper, walls, or wood. What fiction adds is the everything-sticks grip.

Question 5

What stops a static cling user?

Accepted Answer

Insulation and grounding. A room designed to inhibit powers via insulation counters Static Shock in the catalog, and Adhesion Immunity and Anti-Adhesion no-sell the grip outright. The catalog also notes users may be unable to create adhesion, limited to manipulating only from already existing sources, and that distance, mass, and precision bow to the user's natural limits. Drain the charge and the stick lets go.

Question 6

Who are famous static cling users in fiction?

Accepted Answer

Virgil Hawkins, Static Shock (DC Comics), the definitive user whose named technique binds opponents to walls; Peter Parker, Spider-Man (Marvel Comics), whose wall-crawling is electrostatic per the catalog; Maxwell Dillon, Electro (Marvel Comics); Misaka Mikoto (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun), who moves on ferrous walls and ceilings; Haumea (Fire Force); Kaladin Stormblessed and the Windrunners (The Stormlight Archive); Trapster (Marvel Comics); and Link (Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom), each as depicted in their own universe.
