Question 1

What is dream manipulation as a superpower?

Accepted Answer

Dream manipulation, also called oneirokinesis, is the power to enter, shape, and control dreams: your own and other people's. The fan catalogs file it as a Sub-power of Sleep Manipulation. Users can modify, suppress, fabricate, or perceive dreams, confer nightmares or lucid dreams, and at full mastery bind minds into shared dreams or stabilize persistent dream realms.

Question 2

How is it different from dream telepathy (oneiropathy)?

Accepted Answer

Dream telepathy (oneiropathy) is communication: receiving and transmitting information between minds while dreaming. Dream manipulation is control: editing the dream's content, characters, and rules. Telepathy knocks on the door; dream manipulation redesigns the house.

Question 3

How is it different from just lucid dreaming?

Accepted Answer

Lucid dreaming is controlling your own dream because you realize you are dreaming. Dream manipulation is controlling anyone's dream, including people who never become lucid, plus entering dreams uninvited, inducing nightmares, and building shared dream worlds. Every lucid dreamer rules one dream; the manipulator rules them all.

Question 4

Can a dream manipulator hurt you in the real world?

Accepted Answer

Mostly no, with one frightening exception. The catalog notes the power generally cannot warp reality or damage the target physically. But effects linger: emotional scars, behavioral shifts, and ideas the dreamer believes are their own can follow them awake. Freddy Krueger's dream kills are fiction's extreme; the catalog's baseline is psychological, not physical.

Question 5

Is lucid dreaming scientifically real?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Stephen LaBerge proved it with eye-movement signaling during REM sleep; in 2021 four independent labs held two-way conversations with lucid dreamers while polysomnography confirmed REM; brain imaging shows the prefrontal cortex partially awake with elevated gamma activity. Lucid dreaming is a measurable state, not just a story.

Question 6

Who are famous dream manipulators in fiction?

Accepted Answer
