Question 1

What is avian teleportation as a superpower?

Accepted Answer

Avian teleportation is the power to teleport via birds: the user scatters into a flock of birds, the flock flies to the destination, and the user reforms whole and unscathed. It is best filed as a technique of Avian Manipulation and a variation of Animal Teleportation, the way Smoke Teleportation is filed under Smoke Manipulation.

Question 2

How is it different from regular teleportation?

Accepted Answer

Regular teleportation moves the user instantly without crossing the space between. Avian teleportation makes a journey of it: the flock must actually fly the distance, so weather, distance, and daylight matter. The blink is faster; the scatter is stealthier, stranger, and harder to block with a locked door.

Question 3

How is it different from shapeshifting into a bird?

Accepted Answer

Shapeshifting into a bird (Avian Physiology) turns the user into one bird that flies normally. Avian teleportation breaks the user into many birds that travel as a flock and then reassemble into a person. One bird is a transformation; the flock scatter is travel.

Question 4

Can the flock be hurt while scattered?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and that is the power's great weakness. Each bird is a real, hittable bird while scattered: shot, hawks, and storms can thin the flock, and harming the birds harms the user. Masters scatter fast and reform faster to minimize the window.

Question 5

Is there real science behind bird navigation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. European robins navigate with a quantum compass: cryptochrome proteins in the eye form radical pairs whose electron spin responds to Earth's magnetic field, with the signal processed in the brain's cluster N. Radio-frequency fields disrupt it; beak anaesthesia does not. The fictional flock's navigation is this hardware with the gain turned up.

Question 6

Who are famous avian teleporters in fiction?

Accepted Answer

The Zealots of the Lady (BioShock Infinite); Ravenna, the Evil Queen (Snow White and the Huntsman); Mina Harker (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen); Dracula (films, Castlevania); Nevan (Devil May Cry); the Exalted RPG's Flight of Separation spell; Serapio (Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse), each as depicted in their own universe.
